About Salesforce Flow
Salesforce Flow is the visual workflow automation engine built into the Salesforce platform. It enables administrators and developers to automate business processes across Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, and custom Salesforce applications without writing Apex code. Flow Builder provides a drag-and-drop canvas for designing multi-step automations with branching logic, loops, and data operations.
Salesforce Flow supports multiple flow types: Record-Triggered Flows (fire when a Salesforce record is created, updated, or deleted), Screen Flows (interactive user-facing forms), Autolaunched Flows (invoked by other processes or API calls), Scheduled Flows (run at specified times), and Platform Event-Triggered Flows (respond to event messages). Flows can query and manipulate any Salesforce object, send emails, create tasks, post to Chatter, invoke Apex actions, and call external services via HTTP callouts. MuleSoft connectivity (acquired by Salesforce in 2018) extends Flow's reach to hundreds of enterprise systems including SAP, Oracle, Workday, and legacy on-premises databases.
Salesforce was founded in 1999 and reported $34.9 billion in revenue for fiscal year 2024. The platform serves more than 150,000 customers worldwide. Flow Builder is included in Salesforce Enterprise Edition ($165/user/month) and above. A free Salesforce Developer Edition is available for testing and development but is not intended for production use. Unlimited Edition ($330/user/month) provides additional automation features including Einstein AI-powered flow recommendations.
