About Typeform

Typeform is an online form, survey, and quiz builder known for a conversational interface that presents one question per screen. It was founded in 2012 in Barcelona, Spain by Robert Muñoz and David Okuniev, who built the product around the idea that forms feel less like paperwork when they resemble a conversation. The one-question-at-a-time format is the company's defining design decision and the reason it competes on completion rate rather than on raw feature count.

The product covers the standard form-building surface: question types from multiple choice to file upload, logic jumps that branch the form based on earlier answers, answer piping that personalises later questions, hidden fields for passing context in from a URL, and theming to match a brand. Typeform also operates VideoAsk, a separate product for asynchronous video conversations, and integrates with CRMs, spreadsheets, email tools, and automation platforms such as Zapier and Make so that responses flow into downstream systems.

The pricing structure has one detail that buyers consistently underestimate: every plan carries a monthly response cap, and a form stops collecting new responses once that cap is reached until the next billing cycle. As of May 2026, with annual billing, the Free plan allows roughly 10 responses per month, the Basic plan is around $29 per month for about 100 responses, the Plus plan is around $59 per month for about 1,000 responses, and the Business plan is around $99 per month for about 10,000 responses. Higher-volume Growth plans start around $199 per month, and an Enterprise tier is custom-priced.

Typeform competes with Google Forms and Microsoft Forms at the free end, with Jotform and Tally on features and price, and with SurveyMonkey and Qualtrics on the survey and research side. Its position is consistent: a buyer chooses Typeform when the look and the completion experience of the form matter to the brand, most often for marketing lead capture, customer feedback, onboarding, and research recruitment. A buyer chooses a cheaper or unlimited-response tool when volume is high and presentation is secondary.

The company has raised external funding across several rounds, including a Series C of roughly $135M reported in 2022, and has shifted its positioning over time from a design-led form tool toward a broader "conversational" data-collection platform spanning forms, video, and lead qualification. The core product experience, one question at a time, has stayed stable through that repositioning.

Editor's Note: Across 8 ShadowGen engagements that used Typeform in 2024-26, the response cap is the recurring billing surprise. In two cases a marketing campaign performed better than forecast and the lead-capture form silently stopped accepting submissions partway through the month, on a plan whose cap looked generous when it was chosen. The mitigation we now apply on every Typeform build: set a usage alert at 80% of the monthly cap, and size the plan against the best-case campaign forecast rather than the average. The design quality is genuine and does lift completion rates; the cap is just an operational detail that has to be planned for, not discovered. — Rafal Fila, ShadowGen
