What is Moxo?
Quick Answer: Moxo AI (app.moxo.com) is a process orchestration platform from Moxo, formerly Moxtra, for work where several parties, approvals and documents meet. You build templates of human steps, AI steps and automations, each run is a Flow with its own data and status, and outsiders act through account-free Magic Links. Its only published price is Team, and the AI agents start on the custom-quoted Scale plan (moxo.com/pricing, 15 September 2026). It is not Moxo Classic, the older app.
Case management for cross-company work
Moxo's Description of Services calls it "an AI-native business process orchestration platform". Accurate, but it undersells the choice that matters. The unit of work is a Flow, "A single running instance of a Template, carrying its own data and status". A Flow is a case: it starts, pulls in real participants, builds a record and ends. That puts Moxo closer to case management than to Zapier-style task automation, and it explains why the price list counts flows instead of seats.
Templates draw on more than thirty step types across human actions, control logic and automations, AI included, built on a canvas or drafted by an AI builder from plain language. In a synthetic AutomationAtlas test on 14 September 2026, Build with AI turned a written recruitment brief into four steps (form, AI extraction, internal review, approval) with three human roles.
AI works around the human steps
The telling design decision is where the AI goes. A human-action step can take up to three assistive slots, a preparer, an advisor and a reviewer, "each fillable by a person or an AI agent", and agents may run designated steps autonomously, "subject to the Organization's configuration". The approval stays a human step; the AI stages the work and checks it. Moxo's pricing page, checked 15 September 2026, lists Agent Foundry, the named agents and the audit log from Scale, a custom quote.
On 15 September 2026 the same test workspace offered four rejection routes on the Approval step, "Revise and resubmit", "Let the approver decide", "Run rejection steps" and "End the flow", and its audit log labelled actors "AI Agent", "System", "Public link" or the person's name. Rejection handling is chosen when the template is built, so a "no" follows a route someone designed rather than an improvised one.
External participants act through Magic Links or a portal
This is what makes Moxo fit client and supplier work. The Description of Services defines a Magic Link as a time-limited link granting "account-free access to a specific assigned task"; recurring outsiders can use a branded portal dashboard instead. Low friction for your client, with one trade-off to remember: a link shows that someone opened an inbox, not who they are.
APIs, webhooks and MCP exist, but not on Team
The Description of Services documents a public REST API, webhooks and MCP in both directions, saying Moxo "exposes itself as an MCP server". The catch is the price list: on 15 September 2026, moxo.com/pricing listed "Webhooks", "REST APIs" and "Connect via MCP" from Scale. If another system has to start your flows, budget for a quote, not the list price.
One published price, and it now buys less
As of 15 September 2026, Moxo's pricing page prices only Team, at $500 per month or $5,000 per year with 100 flows and $100 of AI a year, and lists no free plan. Internet Archive captures show Team with 250 flows and 25,000 AI credits a year on 26 August 2026, then 100 flows and $100 of AI a year on 10 September 2026, at the same prices. For a handful of processes a year, or automation with no human decision in it, Moxo is hard to justify.
Moxtra rebranded as Moxo in 2022; Moxo AI is not Moxo Classic
The name has changed, and two apps still carry it. Moxtra, co-founded in 2012 per a 2021 vendor release, announced the Moxo name on 7 March 2022, yet on 19 August 2026 Moxo's Terms of Service still named "Moxtra Inc. (DBA Moxo)". By 15 September 2026 its Terms of Service, Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy named Moxo, Inc. Moxo AI and Moxo Classic have separate sign-ins.
