Enterprise RPA platform with integrated process mining, AI, and agent orchestration.

New York, USA Founded 2005 1000+ employees

Leading enterprise automation platform combining RPA, process mining, AI, and analytics to help organizations automate at scale with enterprise-grade security and governance.

Our Take

We use UiPath on engagements where customers have an existing investment in RPA estate and need to extend rather than replace. For greenfield workflow automation in 2026 the choice is rarely UiPath; the company knows this and is rebuilding the story around agentic and human-in-the-loop AI. — Rafal Fila, ShadowGen

What Sets UiPath Apart

UiPath is the largest pure-play RPA vendor by revenue and the only public-equity RPA company at meaningful scale. The platform breadth from attended desktop bots through process mining and into agentic AI is wider than any single competitor offers, though depth in each segment varies. UiPath's Romanian engineering centre remains a distinctive talent base in the industry.

About UiPath

UiPath Inc. builds the UiPath Business Automation Platform, an enterprise suite combining robotic process automation (RPA), process and task mining, AI-driven document understanding, and an agentic-automation layer added through 2024-2025. The company was founded in Bucharest in 2005 as DeskOver, pivoted to RPA tooling in 2013-2015, and relocated headquarters to New York while keeping its core engineering organization in Romania.

The platform splits into UiPath Studio (the developer IDE for building automations), UiPath Orchestrator (runtime management and queuing), UiPath Robots (attended and unattended worker processes), plus the newer Document Understanding, Process Mining, Task Mining, AI Center, and Autopilot/Agent Builder modules. UiPath Cloud and UiPath Automation Suite (self-hosted) are the two deployment options. Pricing follows a per-robot and per-user model with substantial enterprise floor pricing; the company does not publish list pricing for production deployments.

UiPath went public in April 2021 at $56/share and a peak market capitalization above $35B, then declined materially through 2022-2024 as enterprise RPA growth slowed and the company restructured. As of fiscal year 2025 the company reported $1.43B ARR and operating at near-GAAP-profitability. Daniel Dines stepped down as sole CEO in 2024, returned as co-CEO alongside Rob Enslin, and resumed sole-CEO duties in mid-2025 after Enslin departed.

Market Position

UiPath sits at the top of the enterprise RPA market, competing primarily with Automation Anywhere and Microsoft Power Automate. Against Automation Anywhere, UiPath wins on product maturity and ecosystem size but loses on cloud-native architecture (AA was cloud-first earlier). Against Power Automate, UiPath wins on capability and enterprise features but loses badly on price — Power Automate is effectively free for Microsoft 365 customers. The existential threat is that RPA itself is being commoditized as AI agents become capable of handling the same tasks without brittle screen-scraping.

Our Story

Founded in 2005 in Bucharest, Romania by Daniel Dines and Marius Tirca. What started as a small outsourcing company evolved when Dines recognized the massive potential of desktop automation. After years of building automation libraries, UiPath pivoted to become a full RPA platform in 2015, riding the automation wave to become one of Romania's first tech unicorns and eventually going public on the NYSE in 2021.
