UiPath is the 800-pound gorilla of RPA. They didn't invent robotic process automation, but they effectively defined the modern category and remain the platform most enterprises evaluate first. Their product has evolved well beyond simple screen-scraping bots into a genuine automation platform with process mining (via Process Intelligence), document understanding, and AI integrations.
The elephant in the room is pricing. UiPath is expensive — significantly more than alternatives like Power Automate or Automation Anywhere. Enterprise deals routinely run into six figures annually, which means SMBs are effectively priced out. If you're a company with fewer than 500 employees, you'll almost certainly find better value elsewhere. But for large enterprises that need rock-solid governance, audit trails, and the ability to orchestrate thousands of bots across global operations, UiPath remains the safest choice.
The recent strategic pivot under CEO Rob Enslin (who replaced founder Daniel Dines) has been toward AI integration and away from pure RPA. UiPath sits at the top of the enterprise RPA market, competing primarily with Automation Anywhere and Microsoft Power Automate. Against Automation Anywhere, UiPath wins on product maturity and ecosystem size but loses on cloud-native architecture (AA was cloud-first earlier). Against Power Automate, UiPath wins on capability and enterprise features but loses badly on price — Power Automate is effectively free for Microsoft 365 customers. Our Story
Founded in 2005 in Bucharest, Romania by Daniel Dines and Marius Tirca. What started as a small outsourcing company evolved when Dines recognized the massive potential of desktop automation. After years of building automation libraries, UiPath pivoted to become a full RPA platform in 2015, riding the automation wave to become one of Romania's first tech unicorns and eventually going public on the NYSE in 2021.
