Automation Anywhere
enterpriseIntelligent automation for the enterprise
Cloud-native intelligent automation platform that combines RPA, AI, and analytics to help enterprises transform operations with scalable, secure automation.
Our Take
Automation Anywhere is UiPath's closest competitor and the only other RPA vendor with genuine enterprise scale. Their big strategic bet — going cloud-native before UiPath did — was smart and has paid off in government contracts (they're FedRAMP authorized, which matters enormously for federal deals) and in enterprises that want to avoid managing on-premise infrastructure.
The product itself is solid but has historically played second fiddle to UiPath in terms of developer experience and community size. Their Bot Store has fewer components, their academy is less mature, and finding AA-skilled developers is harder than finding UiPath talent. That said, their AI-powered process discovery (which watches how employees work and suggests automation opportunities) is genuinely innovative and arguably ahead of UiPath's equivalent.
The honest assessment: if you're already in the Microsoft ecosystem, Power Automate is cheaper. If you want the most mature product, UiPath wins. Automation Anywhere's sweet spot is cloud-first enterprises, especially in regulated industries like government and healthcare where FedRAMP and compliance certifications tip the scales.
What Sets Automation Anywhere Apart
Automation Anywhere was the first major RPA vendor to go fully cloud-native, which means their platform doesn't require on-premise servers to run bots. This architectural decision makes them significantly easier to deploy and scale in cloud-first organizations. Their FedRAMP authorization also makes them the go-to choice for U.S. federal government automation projects.

Market Position
Perennially the #2 to UiPath in the enterprise RPA market. They compete fiercely for the same Fortune 500 deals but tend to win in cloud-first and government contexts. Against Power Automate, they offer more sophisticated capabilities but at a much higher price point. Their 200+ pre-built 'digital workers' are a differentiator for quick deployment, though the quality varies. The company has been private since being acquired by Thoma Bravo in 2023, which reduces public visibility into their financials and direction.
Our Story
Founded in 2003 in San Jose by Ankur Kothari and Mihir Shukla, Automation Anywhere began as a tool for IT process automation. The founders recognized early that businesses needed more than simple scripting tools — they needed enterprise-grade automation. After years of building RPA capabilities, the company made a bold bet on cloud-native architecture, completely rebuilding their platform for the cloud.
What Clients Say
"The cloud-native architecture was a game-changer for us. We can scale our automation program globally without the infrastructure overhead we had with on-premise solutions."
